Just kidding. We had the right day, and as we expected our new Brooklyn Bomb tee turned out to be quite popular (great job, Sandie) and we enjoyed hearing the various interpretations of exactly why the basketball is illustrated as a bomb. We also enjoyed Vinny’s of Carrol Gardens’ interpretation of an eggplant parmigiana hero (great job, Vinny).

Overall, it was a fun day, but it’s difficult to hang out with Dan without drinking (I had to drive home).

We set up at the Carroll Park Flea Market on Sunday for a few hours of shirt-selling. The sun was more intense than we’d expected and we weren’t smart enough to bring sunscreen. Frank resorted to selecting from our table the shirt he deemed least likely to be sold and improvised some back-of-neck sun protection from it.

Our boy Miguel rocked Prospect > Central for 13.1 miles and a cool one hour, forty minutes and thirty one seconds on Saturday and, as you can see, won the Best T-Shirt medal. He also raised a bunch of money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Those Parrots were quite a crew. Stories about their off-field antics are embedded in Brooklyn history, and in fact, the handful of old-timers who remember the IBL are more likely to recall those anecdotes than they are the Parrots’ success on the field. With baseball season quickly approaching, we’d like to spend the coming weeks waxing nostalgic about the Parrots and their opponents in the IBL. Check back often for new posts that will reveal just how crazy the Parrots and their adversaries were as they rampaged their way through the city drunk, young and stupid.  We’ll also be releasing shirts with the logos of other IBL teams, starting, of course, with Queens.

Several weeks ago WLA member Steve Moskowitz contacted BQT with a great idea for a t-shirt. We loved it, and since 1/2 of BQT headquarters is located in Astoria, we were especially happy to bring his idea to life.

We reached out to one of our designers, Jim Haines, a former Astoria resident who now lives in Queens Village, and asked him to help us pay homage to his former stomping grounds. The result is our latest BQT and our second Astoria-specific shirt, the other being the Hell Gate shirt photographed by Ted Alexandro, one of the nation’s top stand-up comics and fellow Astorian.

Thanks to Steve and Jim for making this shirt happen and thank you, Astoria, for always being awesome!
